Flat Rock Elementary School Reviews

My son is a rising 2nd grader @ Flat Rock. He has atteneded Flat Rock every since he was in kindergarden. My son has scored extremely high on all mandatory test and was awarded the President's Education Award in Outstanding Academic Excellence signed by President Obama. Flat Rock Elm., has greatly contributed to his academic success! My partnership with Flat Rock extends beyond education. Flat Rock Elm.; is our extended family. Dr. Wright along with the amazing,Teachers and Staff know my son by name-this gives my son confidence and security. What a great school!--- Ms. Massey

My children attending Flat Rock 2008-2009 and I was very pleased with this school. The administrators are very helpful, and the environment is very family oriented. The principal knew my children by name, and now that we are at a different school, I am considering moving back to this area so that my children can go back to Flat Rock next year. We miss you Flat Rock!

This is our first year attending Flat Rock and so far so good. The teachers, administrators and office staff are very welcoming. I feel like I am welcomed every time I step foot in Flat Rock which is a huge improvement from the way I felt when I entered Bouie elementary (the last school my children attended). The scores are not great but scores are not everything. I want my children to be somewhere where they can be nurtured and encrouaged and challenged, not just pushed around like cattle.

I am very disappointed in this school. It s disorganized and the test scores speak for themselves. I believe there is too much emphasizes on the wrong issues. One example is the attention to Greek affiliation. I believe it is too early for kids that age to be exposed to something that they will decide to be a part of in college (if they end up going to college). I graduated from college and I know that this is a choice that is not for everyone. But the bottom line is they can t even make that choice if are children are not passing the tests with decent scores. This is just one of the issues I have noticed there are others, but this will be the last year my children attend this school.

My sons attended this school last year (2007-2008) and because it was the first year the school was open, there were a some good things and some bad things. The students do wear uniforms, which I like, but the school is very big, in terms of students, over 1000! If you are an involved parent, the school is great. But if you aren't, there is no way the teachers will know who your kid is, or the staff as a whole, as there are just too many students. The school has a lot to work out, and I hope to see some improvements.
