Stone Mountain High School Reviews

I was a former student at SMHS who went on to Georgia Tech with most of friends and others who went on to UGA, Emory and the Citadel. I received a great education- I took advanced classes and when they ran out- through IMPACT we created our own Advanced Physics, Chemistry and literary classes. There will always be cliques, discipline issues, and teachers with whom you may have a personality conflict. However, kids will get out what they put in and maybe some of you will learn that when you get out into the 'real' world- if you don't like your boss you just have to get over it and drive on. And parents need to do more to be part of the solution and not just complain.

This is a really good school, academic performance is not at its best and could be better. But its olly so much the teachers and staff can do for the kids. I recommend the SMHS Navy JROTC great environment.

I don't recommend this school. I wish I had transfer somewhere else freshmen year but it's too late now. The principal of this school lacks in many areas. She only cares for herself. She cares about what the students are wearing rather than actual issues in the academic areas. She favors the football team and cheerleaders. No leadership is shown whatsoever. Counselors are rude and unhelpful as well as the administration office. This school cannot prepare you for the topnotch colleges. And I know because I am struggling getting into my dream school of UGA right now. Plus this school tries to milk money out of you however they can. That's right. Dues are too expensive, especially during this shaky economy time. What is included in dues? Prom and a keychain. The school is cheap and I can go on forever on how bad it is.

I am very disappointed with the leadership and administration of this high school. The principle fails to administer adequate discipline to those students who require it. There are no penalties for 'sagging' or being late for classes. The majority of the students are contantly out of order. The building is in terrible shape . I feel that the principle's main focus is to limit the advancement of the students and to do as little as possible to see that the school's overall academic performance improves. The school failed AYP for 2007-2008. I am getting my child transferred. as soon as possible.

I am currently at smhs. I feel that this school good personally be alot better. The air doesn't work, the bathrooms are disgusting, and the teachers can't control their classes. We are only in like the third we of school and pretty much all of the freshnam class has had their schedule change ont eh average of 3 times. So therefore you have to continuously find your new class, and since the hallways are 99.9% Of the crowded makes the transition no easier. So i will be leaving this school by the beginning of october. Besides that fact of missing my lifetime friends i will be happy to leave. Gwinnett county here i come!

We sent our daughter at the start of the spring semester 2008 to Stone Mountain. The administration/teachers/staff seem to teach to the minimum. Kids that actually want to learn have to deal with the constant disruptions of fights, being talked to in any matter and if your child is actually intelligent, they may have to teach themselves since teachers have to make sure that they teach to the bottom. I am very dissapointed in the school and feel that students who really want to be educated are at a severe disadvantage.

Teachers and other administrators are excellent. Wouldn't send my kid anywhere else to learn.

Stone mountain High School is a big mistake!! The bathrooms are forever dirty, the staff cannot teach except for a few who actually know what they are doingThe kids are undisciplined and fights go on like we breathe.

My child attended Stone Mountain High for 1 year and it was the worst mistake ever. The principle seem to be more focused on what the students are wearing rather than dealing with the major problems that the school has. If you want your child to be in a school where you feel that your child is getting a good education in a somewhat safe atmosphere then I personally do not recommend that you send your child to this school.

I am a student at Stone Mountain High School and I think this school is the worst school in Dekalb County. But the admins and counselors do not know anything. You ask them a question, they do not know. They lack knowledge about the school and it's problems. Teachers have no control over the loud classes. And students should be able to get their schedule changes to classes they feel comfortable in. Security is nothing, fights starts everyday. Plus the school is crowded especially the transition from one class to another. This makes students late for class.

I am a current student at SMHS and I personally think the school is terrible. Some of the teachers don't have the skills that the students need. Students have been asking to get their schedules changed(for a better class/teacher) but administrators are saying its too late in the semester. What kind of mess is that! That's like saying its too late to get an education. This school really needs some major adjustments, quick!

I am a former student of Stone Mountain High School. I only attended the school for a year, but while I was there I was very disappointed with the school. There is a lack of good teachers, administration leadership, and security. The students were free to do as they pleased and the teachers never had control of the classroom. Between the teachers disciplining the classroom and the teachers actually knowing the material they are teaching the student would be better off teaching themself. SMHS has a lot of work to do, but once it makes the decision to do better they will be an excillent school.

I am a student a Stone Mountain High. I believe that Stone Mountain has potential if we had a new principal. Our adminstators are inexperienced. The security there is none. There are a few good teachers who will keep it real with you. They show things that you wouldnt even know was going on. Things that are right in your face but you wouldnt see.

I am a parent of a child who attends SMHS. The biggest problem in this school is the lack of leadership. The principal seems to be more concerned about her appearance rather than with the quality of instruction. She has a lot of weak policies, which change from day to day. They do too many schedule changes. The administrative team is inexperienced and ineffective. The teachers are more qualified to run the school than the administrators. The kids are wild and unruly. There is no order in the halls, kids cussing and lots of kids skipping, smoking in the bathrooms and eating and drinking in the classrooms. There are teachers who cuss at kids and leave their classrooms unsupervised. The principal is loud and she yells too much. They have unecessary PA announcements. If this is an AYP school, you wouldn't know it. I wouldn't recommend any student to attend SMHS.

Academics, below average. School lunch, horrible. Bathrooms/Cleanliness, horrible. Sports (besides basketball), below average. Teachers (majority), average or below average. School Policies, the worst you could possibly imagine. Environment, horrible (no windows, except in the Commons). Discipline, extremely too harsh(tone it down some, we're not criminals!). Classes, below average.. not many electives to choose from. School Spirit, below average.. mainly because of school policies like Tuck and Pull. Activities, above average in the amount to choose from... below average in the lack of leadership in certain activities. Overall, below average... only thing that makes going to Stone Mountain worthwile is basketball season, the friendships you make, a select few of the teachers, and our school colors, which are the best in Dekalb County. My mom asked me before 9th grade if I wanted to go to Tucker or Dunwoody... I chose Stone Mountain and boy was that a mistake.

I am a current student at Stone Mountain and I have to say that it has not reached the full potential that it is capable of. There isnt a sense of unity at the school or aschool spirit you might witness at other schools. The football team isnt great &no one cares about clubs besides drama club.We dont have pep rallies or alot of things to encourage the want to be at the school. If you are not a high achieving student you can get help with that but it's not the best or even near the best school academically. Im moving next year and besides missing my frineds I'm happy to get away. It's a school that's cliqueish and if you dont stick out as crunk you'll be invisible.

Having attend stone mountain, I like it. The teachers teach the lessons we need to learn. The school is clean. I'd encouage parent to send their kids here.

Stone Mountain is a great school and has great students, we cant get any worse we can only get better.

The school itself is fine. I do not really care for the Principal. She does not give the Parents nor the Students respect. Hopefully she will eventually relocate to another school and the board maybe can bring someone in the school a little more approachable.

My children having attended several other schools, I give Stone Mountain High School a good rating. I am pleased with the academics and extracurricular activities at Stone Mountain. The parent involvement in the school is good, also.
