Floyd Middle School Reviews

The school's principal managed to have instituted this year a standard uniform dress code without an opt-out provision. Courts have repeatedly ruled such dress codes in public schools amount to suppression of free speech, so violate the US Constitution. Thus the administrators show a disregard for constitutional civil liberties that students will adopt and learn to not question. Floyd's new dress code dresses up the school's messy system of student discipline problems that administrators expect so they help sustain it. Parents and others can now expect an even more messy system of student discipline problems to come with violations of dress code. After all, children are thinking, feeling, creative human beings, too.

Every middle school in the area seems to have their share of problems. Positives about Floyd are that there are some strong administrators, as well as some teachers who care, and do their best despite many discipline problems. There is a new uniform dress code this year, also. Administrators really have their hands full, with the disciple issues. PTA is very active. Floyd's population is very ethnically diverse. There is also a vast diversity in income levels, and parent involvement. If you are expecting high academic achievements, you may want to consider one of the private schools in the area.

Parents should monitor closely what goes on during their child's education.

There are some excellent teachers. Lots of problems with attendance. Too many activities. Principal is nice enough to call every week to keep connected. I have not seen any Principal doing that, it is a plus, which tells me he is working hard to improve the school issues.

The quality of instruction and achievement declined greatly. Nevertheless, the level of commitment of few teachers is remarkable.

Hello, I have just enrolled to this school and when you walk in everything is so nice. Once you look in the classrooms there are alot of different races and cultures. They were also being quiet and paying attention.

For the last 6 years my daughter has been in target classes. This year the school has lost all their target teachers and can no longer offer these classes for children that are learning at a faster pace. This is the first year we have had trouble getting her to attend school. She hates going to school because most of her classes are a repeat of what she learned last year. This school needs a major overhall. I have had two other daughters attend this school and they didn't have near the trouble as we are having now.

I have really been impressed with the front office administration. Specifically Floyd's Principal, Dr. Lawrence Bynum. My daughter will be in 8th grade this upcoming school year. I have never been so informed on what's going on within her school via Mr. Bynum's auto voicemail messages relative to school events (i.e. progress reports, concerts, etc). I highly recommend Floyd Middle to Students and Parents.

I went to this school, and within one year I left and went to a private school. Floyd Middle 'School' is not a place that you would want to choose to send your kid(s) to. Most kids do not get along with one another, there is racial problems/violence due to diversity, and the school is located in a place where there is too much traffic, so picking up your kids in the afternoon would be a nightmare!

School places too much emphasis on non-educational issues. School leadership is weak and doesn't work well with parents. I can't wait for my child to be well past this attempt and education. Without out side education I doubt the last three years would have been worth his time. This school is a good example of why parents should send their children to private school.

1.Too much emphasis using the internet for study. I don't mind keeping them current with technolgy but books are the best method for learning. 2.Tries to make the school look better with more non-critical classes which causes too little emphasis on critical math and english classes. Students would literally be better off taking all other classes pass/fail. Colleges determined long ago math and english are the only critical classes which is why they are the only subjects tested via the SAT. Do well here means you can do well overall. This would apply to non-college bound students as well. More is not necessarily better. Granted, this is really more of a problem with the state and/or county system rather than this individual school. Fortunately, I have a high ranking student that does well despite the system and with some help from me.

It's been more than 5 years since my attendance of this school, but it was a great experience. Highly recommend
