Pointe South Middle School Reviews

PSMS is making a bold attempt to overcome the obstacles (such as gangs, drugs, fights, parental involvement, and etc.) that are plaguing most suburban schools. We, the staff, can't do this alone. The opportunities awarded those students at PSMS who want to learn are often discontinued due to the behavior of most of the students. Parents and the community are quick make us aware of what they say we are doing wrong and how they think we should fixed. And that is the end of their involvement, there is very few parents who actually volunteer to see our daily activities. PSMS wants to change it reputation and situation but we cannot do it alone. We need our parents to stop acting like they didn't know their child was a reported gang member or drug dealer; stop acting like their angel at home is not the devil at school. Support us.

i love this school because the teachers try very hard to teach us something new every day

This school is the worst school. There is too many fights and really poor education. I have two students that came from this school and were so far behind that I had to hold one of them back to let them catch up. There is no parent involvement and most of the teachers I feel they are there just for the check not to help students learn.

Pointe South middle school has great students but some just not interested in school but the teachers are interested in them. I think that Pointe South will have a great year this year with Mr.Lillard as the principle and Mr.Walraven and Dr.Vickers as the assistant principle. But this school does need more parental involvement and has a little problem with too many fights.

I just had to transfer my son from a great school MMMS to PSMS and has to be the worst thing ever for my son. He is a A-b student and he really dislikes the fact that he had to change schools it so bad for him that he cried. He was in all these activities in MMMS and once he got to PSMS there was nothing for him to do. I'm going to do everything in my power to get to another school, because there is just to much fighting and other things going on at this school. I want my son to be able to go to school and learn not have to worry about his safety.

This school has had its ups and downs, but I believe it will be a good year and the school will keep improving.

The teachers strongly recommend parents/teacher involvement. The teachers are always available to help the parents as long as the parents are willing to be involve in the children learning.

Pointe South Middle School is the worst school I've seen. The teachers are not interested in the students. There's a few teacher that still care. The teachers just don't care about the students, grades, or anything. It's a bad school

First of all there are to many substitutes Some of the teachers a unprofessional. Some of the kids the teachers have no control over them. I think that parents should be able to visit the class rooms whenever to make sure the teachers are doing there jobs whether or not its a sub or the oringinal teacher. There are lots of fights in this school and nothings being done about it. The school smells in the cafeteria where the kids eat lunch.

I have read the other reviews and each one has merit. This school year (2005-2006), however, we have a commitment to making a change by informing parents of what the issues are at the school, and organizing the PTSA to what it should have been all along. This journey has just begun, but is well on it's way. Dr. Staten, the teachers, and the other employees at the school need the parent participation in order to truly bring around change. I've rated the school overall a '2' per GreatSchool.com's categories because the work is at the beginning, but after a PTSA meeting that I just attended, it look like a change is on the horizon.

I used to go to Pointe South Middle and it was HORRIBLE! I had a lot of friends, but there were also many other students always starting fights and bullying a lot of the other students. The students would harass the teachers and not care at all about their grades. One time, my class even made a teacher cry. No parent should want to let their kid go to this school. Some of my former friends from Pointe South were in gangs, and a lot of of them were doing drugs. There is a lot of peer pressure going around also.

I was a very involved parent in the beginning of the school year 2004-2005, but it all came to a head when I have discussed over and over and time and time again about simple communications ablility. We are all to busy to go back and forth with the same issues. The homework hotline is a starter. As long as the students know that the teachers are not consistant they will not be consistant, and same goes for the parents. There are numerous issues out there, but it is going to take some consistancy to pulled this school back together with administration staff, principal, teachers, and parents. It all starts with us and until we all start and stick with it, it will never turn around. Note: Setting a professional stage would help. LYS

I was attempting to transfer my son from Pointe South Middle due to the fact that they are on the Needs Improvement list and had to offer the students an option to transfer. Becasue the Principal made promises I decided to keep my son at Pointe South, this had to be the worst mistake of my life, my son is constantly being harrased by other students, bullies, etc and Pointe South does not have enough activities to keep those students that are not interested in sports involved with other activities such as Karate, Dance or maybe even chess. I also noticed an incease in Gang activities in the school which is another turnoff, but again, parent involvement is the school is 0-none and everthing does not fall on Dr. Staten, I think that if we had more parent involvement then we can make Pointe South a 'School of Excellence'.
