Atlanta New Century School Reviews

ANCS is the kind of school you register your kids at if you want them to question everything and not take what they hear at face value, be exposed to as much learning as possible through field trips, guest speakers and exposure to the arts. It is the kind of school that expects the whole family to pitch in to make the school a success, because when you join ANCS you are becoming a part of a family. Oh yeah and in return for getting well rounded students who are academically strong, you get the gift of a very competitive tuition. This is why we chose ANCS and why we continue to stay. It's not a school for parents who prefer peripheral involvement.

ANCS is a great value. The student-teacher ratios are half that of public schools and the tuition is much less than other private schools. ANCS has a very nurturing environment while also providing a challenging, well-rounded curriculum.

I am a new parent to ANCS. The teachers are very dedicated and are very responsive to your suggestions and concerns. My child is in Kindergarten and before coming to ANCS he was not reading. He is now starting to read. I love the dedication of the parents and the teachers to the students. Through all the transitions and problems that the school has dealt with the level of dedication to the children has not suffered.

Great school, awesome teachers, and a great parent community!

New parents I would think twice before you consider this school. There are a lot of problems that you won't hear about unless you're already on the inside. I think that parents and the board are pulling together to make the school better. However, before you make any decisions on attending this school check out their accrediation and financial stability. Maybe in a year or so this school will recover from what has scarred them. I do believe that they have a team of good teachers and a board who now knows that they need to be more involved in the day to day operations of the school.

I do not recommend this school as a foundation builder for your child. My child attended ANCS for PreK-3 which was an injustice to him that we are both paying for now! Before my child began his studies at ANCS he was writing and well on his way to reading. This school regressed and stunted his academic growth!!!! I feel sick to my stomach just writing about it. It's summer and I am reteaching my child a years worth of basic foundations again that he did not learn through the school year.

It is a great school. My child has attended for two years and they had him reading at 3 years old. The teachers are very attentive to their students and provide them with a great learning environment.

Atlanta New Century School is a very good value for your educational dollar. The educational staff is very dedicated and go the extra mile to challenge students to do their best. Also it offers a well rounded curriculum including daily Spanish for all grades, Art twice a week and Music three times per week in addition to many field trips to round out the educational experience. The PTO is very involved to help provide additoinal experiences for the students and the new location provides a great learning environment. The challenge that ANCS faces lies in the lack of infrastructure provided by the executive leadership. There often appears to be a lack of cohesiveness on direction for the school which leads to staff and student attrition. Overall, I recommend the school as a solid and well rounded academic experience; but it most overcome its leadership challenges in order to reach its full potential.

This is our first year at the school and so far so good. The things my child has experienced have been awesome. Academically he is steadily growing, his cultural experiences have been outstanding, and his teachers are fantastically focused on the continual growth of each child in their class. The teachers are often there from 7am until closing at 6pm - outstanding dedication. Parental involvement is huge. My only complaint is the lack of outside time and the physical education program has yet to be developed fully. However, they are working on it.

This is our third year at ANCS and we LOVE it. The school really promotes parental involvement which has a great impact on student success. My only concerns are the teacher retention and internal staff issues. I think this year will be the best year yet because of the new building and curriculum. Maybe we can hold on to the teachers now.

We continue to support this school despite evidence of poor management. The teachers are compassionate and energetic but they are working against leadership challenges and steady faculty attrition. We will remain behind the school for another year as long as our kids are their early years. This school has so much potential but it is just above the public school choices in the area. So we will wade through the growing pains and continue to grow. I love my relationships with other parents and we are trying to make sure that the leadership will focus on the kids instead of looking good on paper.

Our family has visited a lot of schools and there is a lot that this school does not promote that is excellent. Spanish - three times a week starting in Pre-K, Music - three times a week starting in Pre-K, After-school drum and piano lessons, dance, karate and more. The lesson plans wrap around field trip forays into cultural exhibits in Atlanta, the 1st & 2nd grade teacher has allowed each of her students to choose the field trip they'd like the class to go on with the person choosing being responsible for the research and information shared with the class - talk about teaching independence. People ask us where is your library I respond we go the the biggest library there is every week - Fulton County library - and the students have to keep up with their own library cards, I love these life lessons in responsibility.

We wish more people knew about this school. The staff is committed to creating an environment where students respect one another and want to learn. Learning is exciting for the students, and the fact that they learn in multi-age classrooms is an added plus. Teachers are fun and the school is filled with childrens art all of the time. Great Spanish program some extracurricular activities such as dance, music, cub scouts and soccer. Parents are committed and involved. Lots of father involvement very unusual to see. Its location is what makes it work right in the heart of downtown. It is fun to drive in from Dekalb County with my child and know that having lunch or going to read to the class is something easily done on a lunch break. Being near the Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park wow what else can you say.

This is our 2nd year at the school and it has been a very positive experience for us. Though the school has gone through some growing pains, the emphasis on the children has remained and ANCS continues to be paramount. The academics are solid and the arts and extracurricular opportunities far exceed other schools of it size. My child is grown tremendously under the guidance of the teachers and staff and we will continue to be strong supporters.

So far so good. This is my son's first year. I love the class sizes. Educated, quality teachers. They focus on academic, social, and economic skills. I will have additional coments at year end.
