Intown Community School Reviews

Great School! I take strong issue with some of the negative reviews here--the communication between the teachers and administrators is excellent; I've never known a parental concern to be dismissed; the kids make great friends (though like every school this can't be programmed). Since relationships develop over time, it is naturally true that the kids who have been together the longest have already established friendships. But I've found the teachers and kids to be very inclusive of new families. Of course, there are kids (likely the student who wrote the negative review) who have consistent difficulty with peers everywhere, and find it easier to blame the school/ others. I suspect their other siblings attend Intown and have good experiences. The school works hard to teach kids strong academics using great materials (vs just textbooks); mutual respect and kindness; personal responsibility; and joy in learning.

Intown Community School is a gem, and not to be taken for granted. Where else in Atlanta can you find a small, intimate school, where teachers care about and pray for your child? Where else will your child have the same depth of learning in history, arts and sciences? I two children who have attended Intown since the first grade. They are currently in 6th and 8th grades. Their understanding of history (and not just American history) and world events is amazing. Their love of learning, appreciation for literature, music and art is a joy for a mother to witness. Intown is preparing children to go out into the world and be leaders. Students at Intown regularly make presentations, and participate in dramas. All teaching at Intown is permeated by a love for God, love for fellow man and love for nature. This is a REAL Christian worldview!

My son went there for sixth grade and really misses this school and the friends he made. This school has good biblical teaching and caring teachers. I enjoyed getting to know the middle school students and parents. I like that they read great books through out the year that tie in with the history and other lessons.

Best thing to happen to my son

I first rated this school a couple of years ago but the administration has changed and the overall attitude of the school has changed. I felt compelled to rate the current Intown School. Communication with teachers and administration is difficult. I don't always feel 'in the loop' when it comes to my childs education. The administration doesn't always take parental concerns seriously. Socially. it is difficult for kids if they are new. The curriculum is top notch but, in retrospect, I would transfer my kids after 3rd grade.

I hate this school. I attended it for 6 years and hated almost all of them. If your child is social, or wants to make any friends whatsoever, or doesnt want to get bullied by teachers and faculty do not send them here.

Although the curriculum is great, it is very cliquish. If you are not in the 'in' group your opinion doesn't count. Very hard for children to fit in if they haven't been there since 1st grade. If your child has any learning disabilities, this is not the place for them.

We've had our daughter at Intown since 1st grade (she's in 7th now) and it was a smart decision. I can confirm all that other parents have said here. Tuition is quite low for a private school but teaching and administration are top-notch and very committed. The Charlotte Mason philosophy mentioned elsewhere emphasizes instilling a love of learning and the results are reflected in the students' test scores. Very strong Christian foundation without being oppressive or legalistic; affiliation is evangelical Presbyterian (PCA to be specific) but the approach is 'catholic' in the sense of 'universal' (there are even some Catholic children who attend). Highly recommended for Christian parents.

Relatively low tuition, but very high commitment re: parental involvement. Believes parents are kids' primary educators, and the result is an environment in which all kids - from very high achievers to kids who struggle in some areas - progress together in a highly supportive environment. My 5 kids range across the spectrum, but it works. Focus is on character over mere academics (although test scores are top notch, without ever teaching to the standardized tests). No religion classes, but biblical principles emphasized in every class. The Principal mailed my 5th grader a 2 page hand-written birthday card, describing such traits as 'empathy' - that my daughter never knew she had (but the Principal provided concrete examples when questioned about it). The school's emphasis on preserving kids' natural love of learning is successful -- my 1st grader couldn't wait to start, and my 7th grader never wants to leave.

Intown is a great school. My daughter and son are there. My daughter had just finished 5th grade at Henderson Mill Elementary School. She loved it but she always complained about how big the classes were. Now she loves Intown because her class has 13 kids in it. She has learned so much in her first 4 and a half months there. She comes home telling me 'Wow! Mom, I did'nt know that about Martin Luther!'The parent involvement in amazing, the school couldn't run without parents! She has been doing so many sports and cool things, I can't belive it! This school is a must.

Intown is a wonderful, nurturing school that offers an excellent, varied curriculum with a christian worldview. The small class sizes are just one of the benefits of Intown. Built on the Charlotte Mason philosphy, the curriculum is rich and interesting. Parental involvement is a must which also enriches the children learning experience.
