If you are up for a quick lunch or dinner, like meat and are not in the mood for the mainstream joints, there's a new option in our city for you. It's called Moe's Original Bar B Que -- not to be confused with the well-known Southwestern food franchise.
Moe's Original BBQ is located at 349 14th St. in Atlanta, west of the I-75, right on the traffic lights of the junction with State St. The area is residential but it's easily accessible from the Interstate (less than a 5 minute drive from exit 250). Also, you needn't be worried about parking, which can be a challenge in that neighborhood: Moe's has its own parking on the back, which is enough for all of its guests. Unfortunately, this restaurant has no other locations in our city, but as this one is quite central, you can make your way to it from various parts of town.
The service at Moe's is great. The staff is quite friendly and the line at the counter moves relatively quickly. Moreover, the orders don't take too long to arrive and the servers are very polite.
The quality of the food is also quite good. It would be nice to have the option of various levels of spiciness, though the default level is pretty good. The ribs are particularly good and make the whole experience something memorable.
The variety of the food is good considering it is a BBQ place. The menu has most kinds of meat -- pulled pork, smoked chicken and turkey, chicken wings and catfish -- and several side dishes, some of which change daily. So, if you have a vegetarian friend who joins you for a drink, they can have some of the coleslaw or the lovely cornbread.
The ambiance of the place is quite nice, with good traditional music (which could be of a bit lower volume though, at least during the day). A few state-of-the-art TVs make sure that you won't get bored, while the decor of the walls is quite interesting, giving the place a very cozy feel. The furniture is like that of a bar, but it is also quite clean and relatively new.
The prices at Moe's are decent, considering what you are getting. It's not a place you would go if you are on a tight budget, but it's more affordable than a restaurant offering the same quality of food. Considering the other options you have in that neighborhood, it is a very good alternative, particularly if you want to hang out with your friends, have a drink and a tasty snack.
Moe's BBQ seems to target mainly the younger population (particularly GA Tech students), as well as families. If you are not familiar with American BBQ, it is worth checking out. If you are familiar with it, you won't be disappointed!
One last thing: Moe’s Original Bar B Que also has the option of private facility rental for special events, large party takeout, and does catering and delivery, too. And if you plan to take a trip to nearby states, you can also find a restaurant of the same franchise in North Carolina (Asheville), Alabama (Auburn, downtown Birmingham, Huntsville), and many other places.
