Geisha House is home to "sensual sushi"
Published: Jun 4, 2009
More than just a Japanese restaurant, Geisha House makes sushi sexy. The red and black decor and lugubrious atmosphere evoke thoughts of a classy bordello.
Geisha House's celebrity owners, which include actor Ashton Kutcher, say their goal was to create the atmosphere of a "surreal high-class brothel" in this Atlanta gem. Geisha House lives up to its name, providing a hint of Japanese sexuality at the Atlantic Station restaurant.
With Geisha girls, sake-infused martinis, and depictions of Kamasutra, you won't find a kids menu at this grown-up eatery. Everything about this place is downright sensual, including the tantalizing fare.
Traditional Japanese sake bars and real Geisha houses give a contemporary spin to fresh sushi, sashimi, salads, steaks and seafood. Special hand rolls made with soy paper come stuffed with baby bay scallops, baked crab or Maine lobster ($7–$12). The Marilyn Monroll features salmon tempura, light chili spices and avocado ($9).
The Oden is an exotic selection of Japanese vegetables and seafood in a delicate, smoky fish cake served with with daikon radish, organic free-range eggs, burdock root and tofu skin ($16). Suggested accompaniment is a bottle of rare Mantensei sake. Grilled Mongolian lamb chops served with a creamy sesame and cucumber salad is a popular dish, as is the eight-ounce Kobe Flat Iron Steak, which comes with Asian barbecue dipping sauce, asparagus and wasabi ($34).
The hands-down menu favorite is the albacore Carpaccio, which features slices of sashimi tuna garnished with Geisha House balsamic jalapeño sauce ($12).
Dress is business casual. Reservations are appreciated.
Happy endings, indeed.
