Raging Burrito tames your wild desire for spicy food and tequila
Published: May 21, 2009
Urban savages can tame their primal desires for tequila, beer or fancy burritos at the Raging Burrito on the square in downtown Decatur.
Dine on the sidewalk with your baby in a stroller, inside at the bar with your date, or out back on the brick patio with the rest of the PTA next to the giant margarita-sipping Mona Lisa mural next to the pecan tree.
Explore the wild side of tequila by sampling Raging Burrito’s dizzyingly intoxicating selection of margaritas or fine tequilas. Here, tequila isn’t merely the firepower in a brain-freezing slurry of a traditional margarita in a salt-rimmed glass. Your margarita can be a Cosmorita, “horny” (with Sauza Hornitos tequila), “Peach Blossom” (with peach schnapps) or have “Razma Taz” (raspberry liquer and a sugar rim).
An entire section of the menu is devoted to the nuances of three different kinds of tequila. Choose from 16 plata, or silver, tequilas, which are clear, retain the flavor of the agave cactus and aged and bottled after a double distillation. Reposado tequilas are sweet and potent, aged between two months and a year. Añejo tequilas, aged up to five years in American oak barrels, have the deepest color and flavor. Enjoy a sampler of three different tequilas for $15 to $19.
Beer lovers will enjoy Raging Burrito’s menu of microbrews, including many from local Sweetwater brewery,
Calculating the permutations possible from the burrito menu would be a mind-numbing mathematical challenge. First, you pick your burrito foundation: basic, raging or raging monster, depending on the extras you want. Flour, spinach, wheat or sun-dried tomato tortilla? Black, pinto or refried beans?
Then put on your thinking cap to choose veggies and various grilled fillers. For a little extra, you can add not just a tasty guacamole, but corn, sprouts or shredded carrots.
For the indecisive, Raging Burrito offers menu favorites, including a blackened tilapia burrito and a pineapple jerk burrito made with jerk chicken and sautéed with special pineapple salsa. For some who like it hot, the Cajun Killer burrito comes with a load of cayenne pepper, roasted garlic and jalapeños.
Enjoy Team Trivia and house prizes on Thursday nights at 8.
