The Grape at Atlantic Station
Published: May 14, 2009
At The Grape at Atlantic Station, you can enjoy wine without being intimidated. Their motto: "your taste is all that counts."
Everything in this cozy bistro, wine bar and wine shop revolves around wine, from the signature small plates, the wine by the glass selection and the bottle list. Purple rules: Chairs are upholstered in a rich eggplant accented by violet walls, mauve napkins, and amethyst salt and pepper shakers. Decorating a wall of the Atlantic Station space is a giant mural of a couple enjoying a glass of white wine.
Don't be ashamed to tell your server if you enjoy sweet wines; they're happy to oblige with a heavenly glass of a tasty German vintage. The staff will let you taste wine until you find one you like. And when you find the wine you love, you can buy a bottle at the wine shop on the premises. The Grape serves 120 different wines from around the world, many from small boutique wineries.
The Grape offers a special "Wine Discovery" offering a 2.5-ounce taste of four wines from a particular country or region for $15.
To help you choose a glass of wine, The Grape's menu classifies wines by their taste. Section one offers light-bodies white wines with just-picked fruit flavor; two covers medium-bodied white wines with mellow fruit flavor, all the way to seven's sweet golden or burgundy wines with a honey flavor; and eights, sparkling wines and Champagne with subtle flavors of peach, grape, cherry or apple.
The Grape Bistro food menu features signature small plates, salads, sandwiches and a cheese and meat plate. The tomato mozzarella bruschetta has a tangy kick from spicy garlic and balsamic vinegar. The smoked salmon flatbread comes on a bed of feta cream carpeted with arugula and drizzles with miso aïoli. You enjoy small plates of a variety of artisanl cheeses and fancy meats such a genoa salami or proscuitto d'Parma, with imported olives, sun-dried tomatoes or peperoncini.
Other tasty favorites include crab-stuffed portobello mushrooms, marinated grilled steak, lamb chops and Southwest shrimp and crab dip. The salad and sandwich menu includes a shrimp and crab Louis salad, tenderloin steak sandwich and a maple-glazed salmon BLT serves on marbles rye with a basil aïoli. For dessert, there's The Grape's signature chocolate fondue, available for two or four, among other treats.
On Fridays and Saturdays, The Grape at Atlantic Station lights the candles, opens the doors and brings in a jazz ensemble. Besides this Atlantic Station establishment, The Grape also has Atlanta locations at Inman Park, Phipps Plaza, and Vinings Jubilee. See The Grape website for exact locations and hours.
