Genki Noodles and Sushi: unassuming and unforgettable
Published: Apr 2, 2009
Genki Noodles and Sushi may look like just another restaurant in a cluster of unassuming Buckhead buildings. But it's here some locals consider they have found the best sushi in Atlanta. It's OK to get your hopes up because Genki won't let you down.
If you can't live without white linen table cloths and a maître d', this may not be your cup of Japanese tea. But if trendy interiors and a cozy sushi bar are more your style, then give Genki a try.
Genki prides itself on being the type of neighborhood restaurant and bar where you might run into an old friend or, conversely, spot a local celebrity. It's also the kind of place where you're able to sit and talk for hours.
A topic of that conversation, perhaps? The delicious meal!
The Western Asian Fusion food served at Genki is what keeps the regulars coming back. A large menu appeals to everyone — at least everyone who likes Asian cuisine! Appetizers include egg rolls, wontons and Cheese Kari Kari (crab, cream cheese, scallions and wasabi cream sauce).
If you're in the mood to mix and match, create your own style of Japanese bowl (broth, noodles or rice served with your choice of topping). Try a skewer of veggies of meat served in the Japanese Yakitori style. But if sushi and sashimi is what you came for, you're in luck!
The Genki menu offers guests a wide selection of high-end sushi, which entices sushi connesiours. But easy-to-understand descriptions of each roll ensures the sushi novice won't be left behind.
From the basic California roll ($5.25) to the Genki Tuna specialty roll ($17.95). Other popular rolls include the Super Crunch (tempura fried salmon, avocado and cream cheese), the Rainbow (crab and avocado topped with salmon, tuna and yellowtail) and the Reid Roll (spicy salmon and lettuce topped with seared Angus filet and avocado).
Lovers of sashimi (fresh, raw meat) are not left out. Try the tuna, beef or salmon tataki (lightly seared and thinly shaven meat).
One of the reminders that you are still in Buckhead is the valet parking, so remember to bring cash for a tip.
