Magnolia Cafe: simply a great place to dine

Published: Mar 18, 2009

It's the simple things in life that are often the most gratifying, which is probably why Magnolia Cafe's unassuming ease is so satisfying —  and delicious.

Historic Roswell is everything you could want from a small downtown district: quaint, charming and a great place to go for good food and time spent with friends.  It's where the discriminating suburbanite wanders, looking for gift ideas, art, antiques and more. So when it comes to sitting down for a chat with friends or family, it's not hard to see why a cafe like Magnolia fits in so well.

The small cafe sits directly in the heart of the district, on Canton Street. Blink and you might miss it. The well-worn front hints at the old-fashioned goal of hospitable service and a tasty product. Colorful signs promise fresh lemonade, hulking ice cream scoops and rich soups made in house.

The eclectic interior  will bring a smile to your face in sheer amusement: There are fireplace mantels without a fireplace, french doors that lead no where, cake stands, mirrors, deer heads, and large glass lemonade coolers out on display. Pretty tablecloths of all patterns and colors add a final touch of playfulness.

But Magnolia Cafe's mouth-watering dishes are what keep customers coming back. Stop in for chicken salad or pimento cheese sandwiches, tomato basil or cream based poblano soups, a cajun chicken wrap, greek salad, enchiladas, or the Hot Magnolia (turkey or chicken breast smothered in sauteed mushrooms and cheese).

Looking for something sweet? Try the Mississippi Mud Browning or choose from several different ice cream flavors! Portions are perfect so you won't leave hungry. In fact, you may even need a to-go box. Having recently acquired its alcohol license, Magnolia is in the midst of adding additional items, including beer and pizza, to its menu.

A good cafe will combine elements of whimsy and simplicity. It should be a place that appeals to a 5-year-old and an 85 year-old . Magnolia seems to do both.
