Wildflour: lunch just went wild!
Aug 17, 2009
Judging by the lunchtime rush, Wildflour in Alpharetta is wildly popular for plenty of freshly baked and tasty reasons.
The strip mall at the corner of North Point and Windward parkways seems just like any other. But in terms of culinary achievement, this strip mall has most others beat with ease.
Wildflour, the brainchild of local cooking ingénue Michael Fields, is what is best about a simple menu concept built on a multitude of different ingredients and complex flavors. Its origination comes from years of culinary experience and successful restaurant ventures by Fields, whose work became quite popular locally in the 1990’s. His last foray into the local scene with Portabella’s ended in 2004 when he chose to stay home with his young son full-time.
Lucky for the north Atlanta community, Fields recently decided to embark upon a new adventure as a restaurateur with Wildflour; which whets the appetites of customers by limiting its availability to the lunch crowd.
And somehow, even with all the hype, Wildflour has managed to drop any indication of pretense for the no-nonsense of straightforward menu items exquisitely made.
Don’t wait to be seated, instead head to the back of the store to place your order, fill your drink, choose a cookie, pick up an order number and find a table within the brightly painted dining room.
There is no chance of going hungry at Wildflour. You are sure to find some soup, salad or sandwich to fulfill every craving.
Why not try one of the daily-prepared soups, like the tomato basil? Perhaps a salad is in order. Try the Miss Lilly (a house salad, topped with basil chicken salad, $10).
Save room for a sandwich, or at least take one home for later. The hot specialty sandwiches like the Seinfeld (choice of meat, with mushrooms, provolone and sage sauce, $7) and the Jalapeno Lime (choice of meat, provolone, peppers, guacamole and jalapeno lime sauce, $7) are favorites. But the cold selections like the Vegetarian (hummus, cucumbers, field greens tomatoes, avocado and pimento cheese, $6.50) and the Hammered Turkey (turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo, $6.50) are just as good.
All sandwiches come with chips, pasta or potato salad and all of the bread is made fresh each morning.
