Atlanta Airline Collectibles Show & Sale: a glimpse into aviation history

Published: Sep 25, 2009

Keep your feet on the ground and your head in the clouds because it’s up, up and away for history buffs and aviation fanatics at the 23rd Annual Atlanta Airline Collectibles Show & Sale.

Have you ever wanted to sit in the flight deck of an antique airplane? Scour the inside of a hangar? Or own a piece of history? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then now is your chance.

The Atlanta Airline Collectibles Show & Sale – held at the Delta Air Transport Heritage Museum – is a yearly event for anyone with an interest in aviation or even just a curiosity about one of the largest and most historic companies in Atlanta. It’s the one-day a year that the museum is open to the general public with no appointment necessary. With over 80 years of aviation history on display, it’s going to be a good show.

Step into some of Delta’s most historic artifacts, including the “Spirit of Delta” B-767 jet, a 1931 Travel Air, a 1936 Stinson Reliant, Ship 41, which was the first DC-3 to carry Delta passengers in 1940 and two of the company’s original 1940’s airplane maintenance hangars.

In addition to the hands on history lesson, over 50 vendors will make memorabilia collectors happy with everything from airplane seats, to model planes and playing cards. And just in case you get hungry from all the exploration of the antique airplane industry, Chic-fil-A will be on hand with food.

The museum store, which will also be open, carries all kinds of Delta memorabilia as well as that of airlines that have merged with the company.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and continues through 4 p.m. Admission costs $5, children under 12 are free with a paying adult. Can’t wait until the doors officially open? The early bird admission begins at 6 a.m. for $10.
