Six Flags White Water: Splash down into fun

Published: May 20, 2009

Indulge your lust for theme park rides without suffering in the sweltering summer heat by splashing into the award-winning Six Flags White Water, opening May 23.

The Southeast’s largest water park, located northwest of Atlanta in suburban Cobb County, is celebrating its 25th season with special events and promotional offers, including live bands and water slide competitions. Six Flags White Water was named  "Best Private Waterpark" by Aquatics International for providing a top-quality guest experience, community and for conserving water.

Hitch up your swimsuit and enjoy 20 rides and 40 slides. Skip the ruby slippers and make like Dorothy by hopping into a Tornado, a funnel-shaped thrill-ride that whirls you down a 132-foot tunnel into a cool blue pool. Thrill-seekers can ride the Dragon Tail’s serpentine 250-foot triple drop. Or drop nine heart-stopping stories on The Cliffhanger, one of the tallest free-falls in the world.

If your idea of fun doesn’t include the word plummet, there’s plenty of places to kick back, relax in the sun and let the kiddies splash around. Touted as Atlanta’s only ocean, the 700,000-gallon Atlanta Ocean Wavepool offers an enjoyable way to frolic in cool fresh water, complete with four-foot waves, without driving to a coast. Enjoy the Wildwater Lagoon,  Slippery Ridge, the Bermuda Triange, Caribbean Plunge, the Tidal Wave or the Famous Bahama Bob-Slide.

Before you go, check the weather forecast because, for your safety, the park suspends some rides during severe weather, such as electrical storms, heavy rain, or high winds. Although the rides reopen when it's safe, the park doesn't offer any refunds or rain checks for inclement weather.

Call the park information hotline at (770) 948-9290 to hear about current discounts, show times, special events and concerts. To find out more about park security, access for people with disabilities or other information, check out Guest Relations.

You can buy tickets and season passes online. Six Flags White Water is open daily 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Aug. 9. After that, the water park is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. but on Saturday and Sunday only until Sept. 13, when the park closes for the season.

Group discounts are available. You can book groups under 100 online; for groups over 100, call (770) 948-9290.
