Medieval Times:

Published: Feb 19, 2009

Think it's unlikely that any sort of adventure awaits you in a mall? Inside the castle at Discover Mills' Medieval Times, adventure is exactly what you'll find!

Prepare your steed, arm yourself and kiss your wench or serf goodbye, because once you enter Medieval Times Georgia, it's like taking a trip back in time -- all the way to the 11th century.

Everything about Medieval Times Georgia, which opened in 2006, is meant to invoke that bygone era -- from the iconic twin turrets outside to the eat-with-your-fingers meal of soup, chicken, ribs and potatoes. Welcome to the Middle Ages. It was a time when kings reigned, knights roamed, and tournaments were the entertainment source of choice. A time when royal guests were invited to join the king's family for displays of knighthood bravery and sportsmanship. And now all of it can be yours to experience at Medieval Times for the price of admission (adults $49.95, children $37.95).

What an experience it is, too! The show begins long before you are in your seat inside the arena waiting for the tournament to begin. From the time you first enter the Great Hall, "wenches" and "serfs" greet you with presents of paper crowns and color-coded table numbers (letting you know where to sit and which knight to cheer for). Then it's on to meet the show's king and princess to have your picture taken.

Even the Great Hall, with its automobile-sized roaring fireplace and rustic beams looming overhead, invite you to lose yourself in the impending show, false British accents and all. And don't worry if you've been to a Medieval Times before; you've never seen this version of the production. The all-new script incorporates more danger, heroics and even romance for audiences to love. But don't worry, it still includes plenty of the jousts and horsemanship it became known for during its last 25 years in North America.

In addition to individuals, families and couples, Medieval Times is making a push to cater to corporate events, birthday parties and big group outings since its arena can seat 1,100 people.

Although Medieval Times is characterized by a certain Disney-esque element of disbelief, the service and excitement embodied by the staff and the performers is handled in such a way that you can't help but get caught up in the fantasy. Before you know it, you'll be waving your knight's banner and cheering loudly: Go, Red Knight!
