Jaemor Farm Market: fresh from the farm
Published: Oct 23, 2009
While farm stands are a tradition that have withstood the test of time; Jaemor’s Farm Market in North Georgia has turned simple grocery shopping into a seasonal adventure.
Ever since crops were first harvested long, long ago, people have bought and sold fresh produce. Today, purchasing “fresh from the farm” is no longer a need due to the plethora of grocery stores that are now available to us. And yet we still travel the distance to shop at a farm market – particularly one beloved by the community like Echols family-owned Jaemor Farm Market.
More than likely we’re drawn back to the farm for a combination of reasons. We go to get back to our roots of digging in the dirt, we go to cut out the middleman and get the freshest product, but mostly we go for the nostalgia.
The Echols family farm grows 30 different varieties of peaches and 15 varieties of apples, as well as a number of other types of fruits and vegetables like beans, onions, peppers, corn and eggplant.
In addition to the fresh produce, each season will see an assortment of jams, jellies, ciders, dressings, spices, sodas, salsas, marinades, relishes, BBQ sauces, hot sauces, honey, syrups, chutney, meats, grits, peanuts (boiled peanuts are popular) and much more. Seasonally, the farm market also sells spring flowers, pumpkins, gourds and squash. And don’t forget to pick up a cookbook for recipes on how to prepare all the fresh produce.
The in-house bakery produces homemade fried apple pies, fritters, ice cream, muffins and more. While an outdoor BBQ stand appeals to sauce-loving carnivores.
A selection of country-style furniture made by local craftsmen can also be found at the market.
And families will find the outdoor activities like the hayride, apple slingshot, pumpkin picking, farm tour, picnic area and corn maze fun for all ages.
Jaemor is open year round, but the product and on-site activities available to the public change with the season.
