Atlanta Skydiving Center: jump into exhilaration !
Published: Oct 1, 2009
If the thought of jumping out of a plane and free falling through the air sends chills up your spine in a good way, then the Atlanta Skydiving Center can probably help turn your dream into a reality.
Not many skydive operation centers can say they have hosted a national championship event. But that’s because not every skydive organization is the Atlanta Skydiving Center, which hosted the Eastern National Skydiving Championships for the National Skydiving League.
It’s safe to say, the ASC is one of the premier skydiving centers in the Southeast.
As the largest center in the tri-state area, the ASC is outfitted with the latest equipment and the safest aircraft (their planes were used in the movie “Point Break”). Because of it, they are able to take skydivers to the limit at 14,000 feet, which is the highest possible jump available. ASC can also accommodate skydivers of up to 285 pounds, which is over 40 pounds more than most skydiving centers.
Prior to a jump, skydivers have access to a 9,000 square foot indoor climate controlled training facility where they are acclimated with jump techniques and parachute training. And unlike many other centers, ASC offers friends and family of skydivers a 2,400 square foot outdoor observation deck, as well as an indoor climate controlled observation area where they can watch their loved ones experience the ultimate adrenaline rush from a comfortable place on the ground.
Experienced skydivers can take advantage of a bunkhouse, showers and lift tickets as low as $16.
Tandem skydives are estimated to take approximately two hours, although your first jump will be more of an all day affair, according to the ASC. Despite the length of time invested in a single jump, the actual skydive is about 65-75 seconds of free falling, followed by a seven to nine minute ride to earth under the open parachute.
The center is open seven days a week and jump costs vary. Video and photo stills are available at extra cost. You must be 18 years of age to skydive.
